Moorhead Fire Crews Respond to Residential Fire

Pet rescued, fire contained to 2nd floor

Post Date:12/10/2014 4:58 pm

A Neighbor reported hearing a smoke detector and called 911.  Moorhead Fire crews discovered a fire in the upstairs bedroom and quickly suppressed the fire.  At the time of the fire the residence was unoccupied except for one pet rabbit which was rescued.

The upstairs rooms sustained moderate smoke and fire damage.  The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental and caused by clothing placed too close to a portable electric space heater.  The damage is estimated at approximately $15,000.

The Moorhead Fire Department wants to remind the public about the dangers of keeping combustibles too close to space heaters.  All space heaters need to be placed three feet from combustibles to  operate safely.
