At approximately 1:30 a.m., Moorhead Police received a report of a vehicle being struck by multiple rocks as it traveled Eastbound on 30th Avenue in the area of the Safari Theater and Speak Easy Restaurant. The vehicle’s rear passenger’s side window had been shattered by a rock that was recovered. No suspects were located in the area at that time.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., Moorhead Police were dispatched to the 3200 block of 12th Street South in reference to a disturbance. It was learned that a second vehicle traveling Eastbound on 30th Avenue had been struck by rocks. The driver, identified as Matthew Lewellen of Moorhead, stopped his vehicle and observed at least 2 males flee from the roof of the Salem Evangelical Church. A short time later, Matthew Lewellen located one of the suspects and confronted him. Two men were identified and ultimately taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Jail for their involvement.
Jonathan David Terning (20 years old) and Michael Thomas Spreiter (19 year old), both from Moorhead, are being held in the Clay County Jail on Gross Misdemeanor and Misdemeanor counts of Criminal Damage to Property and Minor Consuming Alcohol. Additional damage to a light caused by rocks was located at the Salem Evangelical Church. We believe additional vehicles were targeted by these men and ask that anyone that believes their vehicle was damaged in association with this incident to call the Red River Regional Dispatch Center to speak with the on-duty Moorhead Police supervisor.
