Human rights advocate Cani Adan wins MoorHeart award
Congratulations to Moorhead human rights advocate Cani Adan! On Tuesday, October 12, the Moorhead City Council and Mayor Shelly Carlson presented Cani with the MoorHeart award.
In addition to chairing the City of Moorhead Human Rights Commission, Cani works at the Afro American Development Center and volunteers with many groups in the community. He was nominated by four separate individuals in Moorhead. One of the nominations was especially moving:
Cani changed the life of our family. He worked for 13 months to help find jobs for me and my wife. We used to depend on County Benefits but not anymore and the reason is Cani.
The MoorHeart award is an opportunity to recognize individuals who go above and beyond to demonstrate community within our City by their actions and service. A team of volunteers from city boards and commissions selects award recipients. The MoorHeart award is commemorated with a piece of art commissioned from Moorhead-based artist Karman Rheault especially for this purpose.
Previous 2021 winners:
- Former Mayor Johnathan Judd
- The administrators of Moorhead=Fantastic (Mara Morken, Chris Orth, and Marsha Drewlow Wichmann)
Information on nominating individuals/organizations for the MoorHeart award can be found at cityofmoorhead.com. (Search for MoorHeart Award.) Contributions large and small are worthy of nomination!
