Message to Moorhead Business Community

Post Date:06/04/2020 4:55 pm
Downtown Moorhead Inc., Moorhead Business Association and the Moorhead Police Department have been receiving inquiries from businesses with safety concerns and the potential for property damage in the event the peaceful demonstration planned tomorrow changes into a demonstration of civil unrest.

Our local law enforcement has plans to react responsibly to any civil unrest and are working to facilitate a peaceful weekend with our community. Procedures are in place to respond to any civil unrest; however, the details of the plans will not be available to the public. Moorhead Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Office have plans to protect the safety of all involved, both public and private property, and the infrastructure of our community.

Each property owner must use their decision-making in what to do to prepare their property in response to civil unrest. There is no specific information that has been received that could be used as a guide to how businesses should respond at this time. At a minimum, it is advised to remove items around your property that could be used to cause damage or harm, and to use video surveillance if available.

Moorhead cannot rely on the resources we normally would from our North Dakota partners because they have their own community needs. The Minnesota National Guard is present and prepared to assist our local law enforcement agencies in supporting our community.
