Robbery Investigation Results in Arrest

Post Date:04/26/2017 10:10 am

On April 15, 2017, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Moorhead Police were dispatched to the Brady's Service Center in South Moorhead in reference to a robbery that had just occurred.  The lone male suspect was reported to have grabbed the clerk's hand and demanded money from the till.  No weapon was observed; however, the suspect put his hand in his pocket and indicated that he had a gun.  The male fled on foot northbound with an undisclosed amount of cash.  In addition to an attempted police canine track, local medias and the Moorhead Police Facebook page publicly shared the surveillance photos and description of the suspect to solicit community assistance with the investigation.  As a result, a Minnesota Department of Corrections agent contacted the Moorhead Police Department to share information of a male fitting the general description that is currently on probation for a previous gas station robbery.  This timely tip, coupled with excellent police work, led to the recovery of discarded clothing believed to be used during the robbery; as well as, additional corroborating evidence linking the suspect.

Dwayne Murray (53 years old from Moorhead) was taken into custody without incident for a parole violation on April 17 and is currently being held in the Clay County Jail.  The Clay County Attorney's Office has reviewed the investigation and has formally charged Dwayne Murray with Felony 2nd Degree Aggravated Robbery and Simple Robbery.

Through strong community partnerships and collaborations with partner agencies and local medias, we realize continued success addressing serious crimes occurring in our community and increased public safety.
