The City of Moorhead conducted flood mitigation projects in the Moorhead Country Club neighborhood and on June 27, 2016, the City was notified by FEMA that the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) will be revised for the area to reflect the flood protection measures. The revised FIRM is scheduled to become effective November 11, 2016, subject to a statutory appeal and map updating period.
Details on the Country Club Mitigation project:
- 45 properties generally from 18 Ave N to Country Club Pkwy between 11 St N and the Red River were touched by the 100-year floodplain.
- 12 of the properties had one or more structures touched by the 100-year floodplain (including one structure with 8 residential condominium units)
- The LOMR will eliminate FEMA’s requirement for mandatory flood insurance for properties with a federally-insured mortgage.
- Property owners will be able to purchase voluntary flood insurance at preferred rates, and are encouraged to do so.
- Property insurance agents are the best qualified to answer questions about flood insurance.
Since 2009 the City has removed 240 homes from the floodplain through acquisition and an additional 199 properties through Letters of Map Revision for accredited flood mitigation projects (Horn Park, Woodlawn Park, and Moorhead Country Club neighborhoods).
