Moorhead Public Service (MPS) is planning to repaint its water towers - Oakport in 2017, Woodlawn in 2018 and Interstate-94 in 2019. The MPS Commission will repaint the towers blue with the word "Moorhead" wording, but has asked the Art & Culture Commission to explore additional artistic design options. If an artistic design is pursued, the additional cost for the art will need to be raised from grants or private sources.
Artists of all ages with a connection to Moorhead were invited to submit original, artistic designs that may be painted on the Oakport water tower in 2017 in an open art contest. The designs were guided to encompass the theme of: "Life in Moorhead." Deadline to participate in the Oakport Our Tower Art Contest was Monday, April 10, 2017. A panel of community members representing the Oakport neighborhood, Council, Art and Culture Commission, Public Service Commission and Park Advisory Board will review submissions and narrow the field to 2-3 finalists to be presented to Moorhead Public Service Commission for consideration and approval anticipated at the May 9, 2017 meeting.
Implementation of the Our Tower project is contingent upon funding and Moorhead Public Service Commission approvals.
