Officers Assist with Disturbance at the Moorhead High School

Post Date:09/30/2021 1:55 pm

On Thursday, September 30, 2021, at approximately 10:00 am, a School Resource Officer was called by high school staff to assist in separating two juvenile students physically fighting in a classroom. As the SRO arrived in the area, he attempted to control a female, who appeared to be the primary aggressor at the time. As this was occurring, friends of the two parties that were present also began to fight. The SRO called for assistance from patrol officers. As the initial officers arrived, the parties continued to fight. Officers notified others responding of the situation, which caused further assistance to respond to the high school since it was unclear how many students were involved. Members of the Moorhead Police Department, Clay County Sheriff's Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the school. The situation was quickly brought under control, and most of the responding units cleared the scene without any involvement.

The Moorhead Police Department is working closely with the Moorhead Area School District in reviewing this situation. The school district will be handling the case administratively; however, a few involved may face criminal charges. A total of 8 students appeared to be involved, with other students trying to de-escalate or separate those actively fighting.

Despite current rumors, the investigation has not shown any weapons used, further threats to safety, or significant injuries to anyone.
