Police Officer Oath of Office and Award Ceremony

Post Date:11/17/2016 11:00 am

On Friday, November 18, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. the Moorhead Police Department will host a ceremony in the Training Room of the Law Enforcement Center, 915 9 Avenue North, for the following events:

Mayor Del Rae Williams will administer the oath of Office to our newest member of the Moorhead Police Department.  Officer Joseph Secord will be sworn in as a Moorhead Police Officer.

On October 18, 2016, at 9:56 a.m. Community Service Officer Cameron Cordes self-dispatched to the 3400 block of South Rivershore Drive upon hearing the report of a person clinging to a tree overhanging the river.  CSO Cordes is not in a licensed officer position and therefore his actions were well outside the scope of his duties for his position.  CSO Cordes entered the water to over waist deep where he found the victim.  The victim had his feet hung up between an under-water obstacle of tangled roots, branches, and deep mud.  In combination with the river current, the victim was unable to free himself.  The victim had been able to grab and cling onto nearby exposed tree branches and was near exhaustion.  CSO Cordes ignored exposure to personal peril in freeing the victim from the entanglement and delivering him to shore to awaiting officers.  CSO Cordes will be recognized and awarded the Medal Of Valor for his actions.
