The Moorhead Human Rights Commission is issuing the 2020 Human Rights Awards to recognize significant contributions to human rights in our community. Recipients are:
Jamaal Abegaz is being recognized in the Civic/Community category. Jamaal is a community leader and activist.
Ahmed Shiil is being recognized in the Civic/Community category. Ahmed works for the United Way of Cass Clay and has worked with New American communities to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Kari Yates is being recognized in the Education category. Kari works closely with the New American community and has volunteered with food distribution.
Moorhead Police Athletics and Activities League (PAL) is receiving the Human Rights Award in the non-profit category. Through programs such as Shop-with-a-Cop, Cops and Kids hockey game, bike donations and more, PAL looks for ways to have positive impacts with community youth.
The awards will be presented by Moorhead Human Rights Commission at the Moorhead City Council Meeting on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 5:30 pm. The meeting will be held remotely via WebEx.
