City Manager - Dan Mahli
The city manager is the chief administrative officer of the city. The manager is chosen by the council solely on the basis of training, experience, executive and administrative qualifications. The manager is appointed by the council for an indefinite term. See Powers and Duties of the City Manager
Dan Mahli has served as Moorhead’s City Manager since November 2020 and Assistant City Manager from 2017-2020. He is responsible for overseeing all City administrative functions and departments.
Prior to working for Moorhead, Dan was the Community Development Administrator for the City of Fargo and Executive Director of the Park Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. Dan has a Master of Science in Public and Human Service Administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead and a Bachelor’s Degree from North Dakota State University. Dan’s ability to discover unnoticed or unlikely leaders; possibilities for collaboration; and potential for new directions is helping Moorhead develop as a dynamic, diverse, and thriving community. Dan is married to the smart and beautiful Kim Mahli and they have 4 amazing children.

Assistant City Manager - Mike Rietz
Mike Rietz has served as Moorhead’s Assistant City Manager since May 2021. He is responsible for assisting the City Manager with administrative services functions of the City.
Prior to working for Moorhead, Mike was the City Administrator in Barnesville, Minnesota for 11 years and spent 10 years serving several other communities as City Administrator. Mike has a Law Degree and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Hamline University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Marquette University. Mike’s experience in smaller communities allows him to bring a wide range of experience with nearly all city functions to his role in the administration of the City. Mike is married to the brilliant and lovely Vicki Rietz and they have 2 remarkable children.
