Congratulations to Sarah Opitz! On July 14, the Moorhead City Council presented her with the MoorHeart award.
Sarah is committed to supporting individuals in recovery, advocating for programs that provide invaluable resources and support, and building inclusive and welcoming communities! Sarah encourages everyone in Moorhead to extend compassion and understanding to all, listening and supporting without judgement. Sarah’s nomination includes the following statement:
“Sarah is an advocate for all. She has a way of gently but successfully leading others to advocate for themselves first, for their peers, for their community and including everyone along the way. She has the wind at her back as she continues to push forward for our community and especially for the marginalized and forgotten. There is not a barrier I have seen that Sarah has not overcome. I have just barely scratched the surface of Sarah’s accomplishments in both her personal and professional life. If I had to have someone in “my corner,” I would definitely want it to be Sarah Opitz with all her resilience, her vision, her compassion, her empowerment and encouragement along with her inclusiveness”
For all Sarah does for Moorhead – and especially for her determined work to support those in recovery – efforts like these do not go unnoticed or without thanks – the MoorHeart selection committee chose Sarah to receive the MoorHeart Award. Sarah is a great example of the MoorHeart spirit. Congratulations to Sarah Opitz for her incredible kindness and meaningful work!
The MoorHeart award is an opportunity to recognize individuals who go above and beyond to demonstrate community within our City by their actions and service. A team of volunteers from city boards and commissions selects award recipients. The MoorHeart award is commemorated with a piece of art commissioned from local artist Dennis Krull especially for this purpose.
Information on nominating individuals/organizations for the MoorHeart award can be found at moorheadmn.gov. (Search for MoorHeart Award.) Contributions large and small are worthy of nomination!
