On August 16, at 11:48 AM, Mary Nicole Hjelseth (36) from Moorhead was taken into custody without incident in the 3000 block of 18 St S. She is currently being held at the Clay County Jail on the following charges:
- 2nd Degree Attempted Murder (Felony)
- 1st Degree Assault Great Bodily Harm (Felony)
- Domestic Assault Inflict Great Bodily Harm (Gross Misdemeanor)
On August 16, around 2248 hours, Officers were sent to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of 20 St S for a report of a serious cut to the victim's neck. The 43-year-old male victim lived in the apartment and had a female friend over. The victim told officers the attack was unprovoked, and the female left while he went to a neighbor for help.
The Moorhead victim is recovering at Sanford Hospital. This was coordinated response and investigation with the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Red River Regional Dispatch Center, Minnesota State Patrol, Moorhead Fire Department, Metro Street Crimes Task Force, and the Sanford Ambulance.
