Water Tower Survey

We’re so excited to share with you our interpretations of what you told us about our Moorhead I-94 Water Tower!

Following extensive community engagement and comments through a special Facebook page designated for the project (My Moorhead Tower), a community survey, kids’ art worksheets, and meetings with members of MPS and City Council, the Churchill Group has developed four draft artistic concepts for public input. Please share your thoughts and suggestions!

We heard…There are so many wonderful things about Moorhead that bring us pride - from the richest farmlands in the world, to the dilly bars at the famous Moorhead Dairy Queen, endless educational opportunities, and even our love for hockey and other Spuds sports.

We’ve learned that illustrating all of these wonderful things about Moorhead on a tower viewed by people driving by at 55 MPH is unrealistic. We hope you will find the draft designs represent treasured elements of Moorhead in an uncluttered, catchy, and bold way. Simplicity and thoughtfulness were key aspects of our design process.

According to our survey results, many Moorhead residents are proud of all things nature such as: the outdoor opportunities, the Red River, and Moorhead’s walkability because of all the sidewalks and trails. In addition, the words community, friendly, growing, home, diversity, welcoming, proud, safe, neighborly and strong were frequent themes from the survey. After combining these thoughts, we hope you will see many of these expressions of Moorhead pride inspired the proposed tower art.

Please correct the field(s) marked in red below:

Moorhead I-94 Water Tower Option #1

Option 1 features several varieties of Minnesota native trees. The different colored trees represent our four seasons. As each season comes and goes, our strong feelings for Moorhead endure. May it be the first snowfall, the sound of a crisp autumn leaf, or the smell of spring’s new flowers we know we are home in Moorhead. We’ve included an image of Minnesota to show travelers our pride here on the western border of our state.

Do you see an exclamation point? This represents the excitement and opportunities available in Moorhead. Moorhead is a city full of successful accomplishments and unique opportunities for residents and visitors, and the exclamation point is here to show it!  If you do not see an exclamation point you may see it as a map pin. This pin is here to welcome you and let you know that you have reached your destination.

This option is all about the river – even the typestyle of Moorhead hints at the oxbows of the river and maybe even hints at the Hjemkomst Center’s tent-roof of our skyline.
