Q. How do I register to vote?
A.
  You may register at your polling site on Election Day or, on any other business day apply in person at the County Auditor’s Office at 807 11th Street North in Moorhead.  Bring your driver’s license I.D. with your current address or come with a registered voter from your precinct that can certify you live in Moorhead.  Questions, call 299.5006.

Q. Where do I vote?
A.
  Enter your home address in the Property section for  information including your polling place.

Q. Do I need a permit to remodel my house?
A. No permit is required for redecorating such as painting, carpeting or cabinets.  A permit is needed if walls will be constructed, or plumbing moved.  An owner/occupant can do one’s own plumbing, but a permit is needed if more than a repair or replacement is done.  For questions, contact Building Codes at 299.5424 or e-mail  buildingcodes@ci.moorhead.mn.us. Building Codes is now located on the Fourth Floor of City Hall, 500 Center Avenue. For electrical permits and inspections, contact Rod Schaffer at 701-235-2840 or cellular 701-261-5625.

Q. What are the rules about building a fence?
A.
No permit is required, but be certain of property lines before installation.  The fence does not have to be setback from the property line.  Fences can be 6 feet high in side or rear yards, but are limited to 24-48 inches in the front yard, depending on type. Q. I just purchased a home in Moorhead. How do I apply for the Homestead Tax Credit?
A.
  Submit completed application to the City Assessor’s Office on 3rd Floor of  City Hall, 500 Center Ave., Box 779, Moorhead, MN.  Questions, call 299.5310 or e-mail assessors@ci.moorhead.mn.us.

Q. I’m thinking of purchasing a home in Moorhead. What resources are available for first-time homebuyers?

Q. Is there a  way to notify the  police about  non-emergency situations such as parking violations, noise and animal complaints?
A.

Q. Where can I find out more information about bus services?
A.

Q. Why didn’t my garbage or recycling get picked up?
A.
  Be sure to have your garbage and recycling on the curb early.  For detailed instructions regarding garbage and  recycling, Click Here, Call 299.5347 or email Fleet@ci.moorhead.mn.us.

Q. What should I do if my sewer is plugged, experience slow drains, or detect sewer odor?
A.
Call the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 299.5385 or e-mail wastewater@ci.moorhead.mn.us before calling a plumber!

Q. Where do I get my pet license?
A.
Licenses may be purchased at the Moorhead Police Department 915 9th Avenue North.  Don’t forget to bring your pet’s vaccination records.

Q. Where do I get information on neighborhood block clubs?
A.
To find out if there is a block club in your neighborhood or if you would like information on how to start your own block club, call 299.5143 or e-mail nancy.taralson@ci.moorhead.mn.us.

Q. Where can I find information about starting a business?
A.

Q. How can  I get  branches  picked up?
A.
Small piles of branches and logs can be left on the curb to be picked up on garbage pick-up day.  The small pile must not exceed 4' H  x 8' W  x 12' L and the logs may be no larger than 8" in diameter.  For larger loads see Moorhead eServices or call 299.5422 to schedule a pickup.  A fee may apply for larger loads.

Q. Who do I call to report a streetlight that is burned out?
A.
 Moorhead eServices or E-mail  (mps@mpsutility.com  ) You can also call Moorhead Public Service at 299.5400 or call 299.5418 on holidays or for after-hours assistance.

Q. Who do I call to report a sign that has been knocked down or is missing?
A.
 Moorhead eServices or call the Street Department at 299.5422.
 
Q. How can I get a burning permit?
A.
Come to the north Fire Annex  at 111 12 St. N. to complete an application and receive instructions.

Q. What does it mean if my smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector is beeping?
A.
If your alarm  beeps or chirps every few seconds, it needs a new battery.

Q. I missed my court date. How do I reschedule the date?
A.
Contact Court Administration at 299.5065.

Q. How do I sign up for unemployment or enroll in Job Service?
A.
Call the Minnesota Workforce Center at 236.2191.
