Bergquist Pioneer Cabin |

The Bergquist cabin, built in 1870 by Swedish immigrant John Bergquist,
is the oldest house in Moorhead still on its original site. The cabin is
open each year during the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival in June, and

The Comstock House is an 1882 Victorian Home with the original furnishings
of Moorhead pioneer Solomon G. Comstock. A state senator, Comstock is considered
the founder of Moorhead State University, and with his wife Sarah, was
instrumental in establishing the first public library in Moorhead. |

The heritage center offers an exciting variety of multicultural and
multidisciplinary displays that interpret the history of the Red River
Valley. The center is the permanent home of the Hjemkomst Viking Ship,
built by the Robert Asp family. On the grounds is a Stave Church replica
of the 12th Century Norwegian structure, hand carved by local artisan Guy
Paulson. |
| In Heritage Hall, visitors will find an array of entertaining and educational
exhibits. The exhibit hall, the largest in the upper Midwest, hosts major
traveling exhibits. |

Historic Log Cabin |

The log cabin was built in 1859 along the Red River and served as a
stagecoach stop on the Minnesota Stage Company’s route. In 1878 Charles
Whitcomb bought the cabin and moved it to 10th Street North in Moorhead.
In 1933 former Parks Director Adolph Bowman and the Moorhead Garden Club
moved the cabin to its current location. In 1999, local artists, Gloria
Weisgram, Gary Paulsen and the City of Moorhead began to use it as a folk
art center. |

Ruby Pontoon Boat Ride Tours |

Take a relaxing 45 minute pontoon ride on the Red River with friends
and family. A knowledgeable captain will chronicle the history, geography
and wildlife that live in and along the river. S.S. Ruby can be boarded
on the Red River under the 1st Avenue North Bridge adjacent to the Hjemkomst
Center, 202 1st Ave North in Moorhead. |

The S.S. Ruby is available for birthdays, family reunions or company
outings. Tours are available mid May through September. Schedule subject
to change based upon weather and river conditions.
Canoe/Kayak/Bike Rentals
Rent a canoe, kayak, or bike and experience the Red River in downtown
Fargo-Moorhead first-hand via the Red River or the riverfront trails! Various sized
canoes, single or tandem kayaks, and 1, 2 or 4 passenger bikes available.

The Stave Church, on the grounds of the Hjemkomst Center was a dream
of local artisan, Guy Paulson of Fargo. The Stave Church was built using
long, log columns for its central supports and is a replica of the Hopperstad
Stavkirke, in Vik, Norway, which dates from the late 1100s. The church
replica was gifted to the City of Moorhead by Guy Paulson, his wife Beva,
and sister DeMaris Mathison of Spearfish, South Dakota. The Stave Church
is used for weddings, cultural and educational events, as well as guided
tours. |

See how one man’s dream became a reality. Robert Asp of Moorhead dreamed
of building a replica Viking Ship and sailing it to Norway, the land of
his ancestors. Photographs, recordings and an award winning documentary
chronicles the construction of the 76-foot, hand-built Viking Ship Hjemkomst
and its incredible 6,000-mile voyage across the Atlantic in 1982. |
