Flood Cleanup First Steps

Moorhead residents and businesses are working to clean up and restore their properties. Please consider these steps to assess damage before you begin clean up. There are helpful clean up tips and flood related information available through University of Minnesota Extension or Minnesota Department of Health.

FEMA
The deadline to register for physical damage is JUNE 9, 2009.   Individuals and Households Program assistance is available to Moorhead and Clay County residents affected by the flood. To determine if you qualify for FEMA assistance, register online call 1-800-621-3362, or visit the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center located at 1110 14th Street South, Moorhead (open 9 am to 7 pm Monday through Saturday).

Small Business Administration
The deadline to register for economic injury is Janury 11, 2010.  Whether you rent or own your home, own your own business, or own a small agricultural cooperative located in a declared disaster area, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the US Small Business Administration. Read More

The Mayor and Moorhead City Council have authorized a buyout program for flood-prone and flood damaged homes. Read More

New 2 Year Property Tax Abatement - Flood Recovery
As part of flood recovery legislation signed into law in May, new homes will receive a two-year property tax abatement on $200,000 of building value, and new apartments will receive an abatement on the first $20,000 value per unit. This program is offered city-wide without income or first-time buyer restrictions. Read More
