"As a retailer, having two colleges plus a technical school is certainly a big plus. It gives us a broader base, not only for customers, but also for finding good, quality employees. We employ quite an age range.

"We employ people who are retired and want to have some hours, people who are at home but want to have a job and get out for a while, and college students who need to supplement their income.

"I think the downtown Moorhead area is an ideal place to be. It's actually very centered in the metro area, and easy to get to from many directions, even for people coming off the Interstate. I've been downtown since 1984, and we've always experienced Moorhead as a very positive place to do business—we've seen continued growth every year."

Alma Cater began Country Greenery as a home-based business caring for plants in commercial settings. In 1984, Alma expanded her business into a retail store featuring flowers, plants and gifts at 17 South 5th Street in downtown Moorhead. Country Greenery has a second location in Fargo, North Dakota.
