On April 9, 2007 Officers Daniel Birmingham and Christopher Martin were instrumental in saving the life of a suicidal juvenile. The juvenile had been placing cellular phone calls indicating she was in distress, but the officers did not know where she was at. Officers Birmingham and Martin relentlessly continued looking for the juvenile and eventually started looking outside the City of Moorhead. The juvenile was located several miles outside the city in rural Clay County. When located, the juvenile had equipped a motor vehicle to divert the exhaust fumes to the interior with the intent of causing her own death. The juvenile was unconscious and disoriented when found. With medical attention the juvenile made a full recovery.
Through persistence and commitment, beyond the normal scope of their duties, Officer Birmingham and Officer Martin exhibited the highest standards of the police profession and provided an opportunity for reconsideration and reflection.
