Our 33 “line” personnel work rotating 24-hour shifts to provide 24x7 emergency response capability. They are organized into three shifts that work a predetermined schedule resulting in a 56-hour average work week.

Our five “staff” personnel work Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and at other times as needed. View our organization chart or contact a member of our Command Staff below.

 

Rich Duysen

Chief Duysen has been with the City since 1994. He was promoted to Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal in 2002, Interim Fire Chief in 2010, then Fire Chief in 2012. Before working for the City, Chief Duysen worked as an Airport Firefighter at Hector International Airport and as a Paramedic for F-M Ambulance.

Chief Duysen received an Associates Degree in Fire Science from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor in Management and Master of Science Degree in Strategic Leadership from the University of Mary.  He is a student in the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy. Chief Duysen is a licensed Firefighter and Paramedic in the State of Minnesota, an IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Instructor II, Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector II, Haz-Mat Technician, Driver/Operator and Airport Firefighter.  Duysen earned the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing.

Chief Duysen is a member of the Board of Authority for Red River Regional Dispatch, Board of Directors for The Village Family Service Center, and member of the Minnesota State Fire Chief’s Association Code and Legislative Committees.

 


Jeff Wallin

 

Chief Wallin has been with the City since 1994. He was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief/Training Coordinator in 2005 and appointed as the Public Information Officer in 2013. Before working for the City, Chief Wallin worked as a Firefighter, Lieutenant, Training Coordinator and Fire Marshal in St. Francis, Minnesota, and Emergency Medical Technician for Health One Transportation and Fire & EMS Training Coordinator for Dakota County/Red Wing & Winona Technical Colleges.

Chief Wallin received his Associates of Applied Science in Fire Protection from North Hennepin Community College, Bachelor of Science in Fire & Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Mary. He is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Fire Officer II, and Fire Instructor I and Driver/Operator. He is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy and he earned the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing.

Chief Wallin also works as an adjunct faculty member of Minnesota State Community & Technical College, Peer Reviewer for the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Secretary of the Clay County Fire Chief’s Association, board member of the Northwest Regional Fire Training Advisory Board, serves on the Next Generation 911, Fire & EMS Operations, and CAD/RMS Steering Committees of Red River Regional Dispatch Center, Examiner for the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board and Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board, a member of Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association Fire Officer School Committee, a bagpiper for Heather & Thistle Pipes & Drums, and President of the Glyndon Lutheran Church Council.

Chad Stangeland

 

Chief Stangeland has been with the City since 1995. He was appointed the Haz-Mat Team Coordinator in 2004, promoted to Lieutenant in 2009, Captain in 2010 and Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal/Emergency Manager in 2012. Before working for the City, Chief Stangeland worked as a Firefighter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Oak Grove, MN, and Holyoke MN. He has also worked as a Paramedic for Innovis Health, Ringdahl Ambulance, and F-M Ambulance.

 

Chief Stangeland received his Associate of Arts at Moorhead State University, Associate of Applied Science in Fire Technology & Administration from Lake Superior College, Bachelor of Science in Fire & Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati, and is a student in the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy. He is a licensed Firefighter and Paramedic in the State of Minnesota, Minnesota Certified Emergency Manager, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Instructor I, Fire Officer II, Driver/Operator,  Fire Inspctor II, and Fire Invstigator.
Chief Stangeland also works as an adjunct faculty member of Minnesota State Community & Technical College, an Examiner for the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board, a member of the Minnesota State Fire Chief’s Association Emergency Management Committee, a member of the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Chemical Assessment Team Technical Advisory Committee and Chair of their Training Committee, and a member of Emergency Preparedness Committees at Sanford Health, Essentia Health, and City of Moorhead.

Joe Gaughan

 

Chief Gaughan has been with the City since 1985. He was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief/Training Coordinator in 1998 and transferred to the Suppression Division as an Assistant Fire Chief/Shift Commander in 2005.
Chief Gaughan received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II and Instructor I.

Greg Doeden

 

Chief Doeden has been with the City since 1983. He was promoted to Assistant Fire Marshal in 1992, transferred to the Suppression Division and promoted to Lieutenant in 1998, and Assistant Fire Chief/Shift Commander in 1999.

Chief Doeden received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II and Instructor I.

Chief Doeden is a board member of the Middle Cormorant Lake Association.

Rich Eggert

 

Chief Eggert has been with the City since 1992. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1999 and Assistant Fire Chief/Shift Commander in 2010. Before working for the City, Chief Eggert worked as a Firefighter in Bemidji, MN and for Leach Lake Ambulance.

Chief Eggert received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Bemidji State University. He is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Instructor I, and Fire Officer I.

Chief Eggert is also the Training Officer for the Dilworth Fire Department, works as an adjunct faculty member for Minnesota State Community & Technical College, and an Examiner for the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. Chief Eggert serves in the Minnesota Army National Guard as a Sergeant Major, and is active with Pheasants Forever.

Dave Allen

 

Captain Allen has been with the City since 2003. He was promoted to Captain in 2010. Before working for the City, Captain Allen was a Firefighter in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Captain Allen is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Instructor I, and Fire Officer I.

Eric Berg

 

Captain Berg has been with the City since 1999. He was promoted to Captain in 2010. Before working for the City, Captain Berg was a Firefighter in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Captain Berg received his Associate of Arts from Fergus Falls Community College and an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Protection from Lake Superior College. He is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Instructor I, and Fire Officer I.

Ryan Muchow

 

Captain Muchow has been with the City since 2003. He was promoted to Captain in 2010. Before working for the City, he worked as a Firefighter in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and Aberdeen, South Dakota, and as an Emergency Medical Technician for Ringdahl Ambulance in Fergus Falls.

Captain Muchow holds on Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science from American Public Universty and has received certificates in Emergency Management from Fredrick Community College and Fire Department Company Officer from Minnesota State Community & Technical College. He is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Instructor I, and Fire Officer I.

Captain Muchow also works as an adjunct faculty member of Minnesota State Community & Technical College and is an Examiner for the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board and Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. He is the manager off the Clay County CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program and is a member of the Minnesota State Hazardous Materials Response Teams' Equipment Committee.

Gary Larsen

 

Captain Larsen has been with the City since 1995. He was promoted to Captain in 2012. Before working for the City, Captain Larsen worked as a Firefighter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Proctor, Minnesota, and as a Wildland Firefighter for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Captain Larsen received his Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science & Administration from Lake Superior College. He is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Instructor I and Fire Officer I.

Captain Larsen also works as an adjunct faculty member of Minnesota State Community & Technical College.

Benton Hicks

 

 

Captain Hicks has been with the City since 2001. He was promoted to Captain in 2010.
He is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II and Instructor I.

Captain Hicks also works as an adjunct faculty member of Minnesota State Community & Technical College and is active in the Minnesota international Association of Arson Investigators.

Todd Church

 

Captain Church has been with the City since 2002. He was promoted to Captain in 2010. He also serves as our department mechanic, coordinating our vehicle maintenance and repair program.

Captain Church is a licensed Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota, and IFSAC certified Firefighter II, Instructor I, and Fire Officer I.

Captain Church also works as an adjunct faculty member of Minnesota State Community & Technical College and is active with F-M Athletics and Babe Ruth Baseball.

Dorene Rurup

 

 

Dorene has been with the City since 1986 She began as a Rental Housing Office Specialist. In 1987 she transferred to the Fire Department, and became the Program Assistant in 2004. Before working for the City, Dorene was employed by Concordia College in Moorhead.

Dorene received her Legal Secretary Certificate from Northwest Minnesota Technical College.
