Annual Election Information

2009 Voting locations are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Moorhead City Council Candidate Information
Eligibility for Office: Candidates must be qualified voters from their respective ward, at least 21 years of age on the date of taking office, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the City/ward for least 30 days prior to the election.
The 2009 filing period is August 25 thru September 8, 2009, for the following positions:
Mayor (4-year term)
1st Ward Council Member (4-year term)
2nd Ward Council Member (4-year term)
3rd Ward Council Member (4-year term)
4th Ward Council Member (4-year term)
The filing fee for municipal office is $5.00. Please contact the City Clerk's office (299.5304) if you have any questions.
Voter Eligibility
A person is eligible to vote, if at the time of the election, he or she is: 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the United States, resided in Minnesota for at least 20 days immediately preceding the election; are not under court-ordered guardianship in which the court order revokes the right to vote, have not been found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote; and have the right to vote (if convicted of a felony, the felony sentence has expired or the sentence has been discharged). Absentee Voting
Absentee voting occurs within the 30 days before each election. Eligible voters may vote by absentee ballot for the following reasons: 1) absent from the precinct; 2) illness or disability; 3) unable to go to the polling place due to a religious observance or belief; 4) service as an election judge in another precinct. Absentee ballots will be available at the City Clerk's Office, Moorhead City Hall, 500 Center Avenue - 3rd Floor, Moorhead, starting 30 days prior to Election Day.

The City of Moorhead will be reviewing its current polling locations for possible revisions to better meet the needs of the Moorhead residents. However, until notified otherwise of any change, the following sites continue to serve as the Moorhead polling locations/places.

Election Judges
Citizens appointed to serve as election judges staff Moorhead's 13 polling places/locations. To serve as an election judge, you must be:
- Eligible to vote in Minnesota
- Affiliated with a major political party
- Able to read, write and speak English
- Trained and currently certified as an election judge (training will be offered in 2008)
Duties performed by an election judge include, but may not be limited to: set up for the 7 a.m. opening of the poll; distribute & collect ballots, register new voters, help voters requiring assistance, process absentee ballots, record and certify vote totals. Election judges are paid an hourly wage. State law allows time off from work without loss of wages to serve as an election judge with 20 days prior notice to the employer. Judges may work at either or both the Primary election and General election.
