At 10:05pm the Moorhead Fire Department responded to an attached garage fire at 1103 13th Street South in Moorhead. Crews arrived to find fire rolling out an open garage door, a motorcycle engulfed in flames inside, with fire extending to a workbench and other contents. The initial fire was extinguished within two minutes, but firefighters worked for another 45 minutes to extinguish hot spots in the garage and attic.
Shortly before the fire broke out, a male homeowner returned from a ride on a motorcycle, parking it in the garage. Minutes later, while cooking food in the kitchen, he smelled smoke and discovered the fire in the garage. He and a dog escaped without injury and called 911. The garage suffered significant fire damage with light smoke damage extending into the house. Total damage is initially estimated at $30,000. The fire remains under investigation.
Two engines from Moorhead Fire responded and off-duty Firefighters were called back to staff Stations. The Moorhead Police Department assisted with traffic control and F-M Ambulance provided medical support.
