New Hornbacher's Supermarket to be built in south Moorhead

Development includes 20 acres of retail similar to the Shoppes at Osgood

Post Date:03/20/2014 10:14 am

In a March 20 news conference, Mayor Del Rae Williams thanked Hornbacher's President Matt Leiseth and PACES Lodging/Property Resources Group President/Owner Kevin Christianson as they unveiled plans to build a new 61,000 square foot grocery store and 50,000 square feet of retail/lease space and 4 additional outlots for new retail opportunities.

Leiseth stated, "As a Moorhead resident myself, I couldn't be happier to bring this new Hornbacher's store to Moorhead."  Kevin Christianson of Property Resources Group indicates the project will break ground in summer of 2014 just south of I-94 at 8th Street and 40th Avenue South.  The development will take on the same upscale design and appearance as the Shoppes at Osgood in southwest Fargo that has Hornbacher's as its anchor. Leiseth indicated there are no plans to close the existing Moorhead Hornbacher's store, noting that a second Moorhead store makes sense given recent housing growth.

Mayor Williams declared this an exciting time for Moorhead and a lucky time for her to be Mayor.  She is pleased Hornbacher’s chose Moorhead for their second largest grocery store in the company. Many home builders and residential developers were on hand and applauded the announcement, along with City Council and Economic Development Authority members.

This new retail development, which should open in early 2015 brings more amenities to this area of Moorhead, adding to:

  • New housing developments, both single family homes and multifamily apartments
  • SG Reinertsen Elementary School
  • Parks and bike trails
  • Trollwood/Bluestem Center for the Arts

Moorhead is on the grow.  This development is one more reason to Make Moorhead Home.
