City of Moorhead Opening Additional Park Facilities, Pools will not be open in 2020

Post Date:05/15/2020 1:24 pm

Based on guidance from the State of Minnesota, the City of Moorhead is reopening certain parks and recreation facilities for use. Our current guidance allows for groups of no more than 10 people and so long as 6 feet social distance can be maintained.

Now Open:

  • All 45 Moorhead City Parks and 44.5 miles of bicycle/pedestrian trails (Restrooms and drinking fountains are not open at this time; users should bring water bottles if desired.)
  • Playgrounds - The City will not be sanitizing equipment; users will be responsible for bringing their own sanitizers/wipes.
  • Recreation programs with no more than 10 participants
  • Athletic Fields - Prior approval required from the Parks Department (groups of no more than 10)
  • Canoe and kayak individual rentals - Participants are encouraged to provide their own lifejackets.
  • Youth Tennis Lessons
  • Outdoor Pickleball
  • Moorhead Farmers Market
  • Tae Kwon Do in the Park
  • Junior Golf Lessons

Upcoming activities anticipated:

  • A number of virtual recreation programs under development
  • Baseball skills camp (July 2020 dependent upon state guidelines)
  • The City of Moorhead is continuously evaluating parks and recreation offerings. As conditions improve and public health restrictions are lifted, the City of Moorhead will open more facilities and allow for larger gatherings.

Not opening in 2020 - Swimming and Wading Pools:

  • In compliance with Governor Walz’s Executive Order 20-56, and in the interest of safety of our residents and employees, we will not be opening our swimming and wading pools in 2020. There is no practical way to limit the number of participants in order to achieve appropriate social distance in and around the pools, maintain safety for swimmers and lifeguards, or provide a fun experience for swimmers with the recommended restrictions.

Please check out the parks and recreation page for updates and details on particular activities and programs.
