MOORHEAD MN: Moorhead was recognized this week as #14 on an index of the 50 best cities to live in the US. The index was compiled by 24/7 Wall St and published in USA Today on September 10, 2019. The summary of Moorhead states: “The population of Moorhead, a city immediately to the east of Fargo, has increased by nearly 10% in the past five years, roughly three times the national population growth over the same period.
A growing population is often a sign of a healthy economy, and Moorhead's five-year average unemployment rate of 2.2% is about half the national unemployment rate over the same period. Employment in the city has increased by about 10% over that period, compared to a national employment growth of 6.1%.”
The City of Moorhead also launched a community identity film this week that highlights Moorhead’s strengths. The film, “Where the Strong Belong,” positions Moorhead as a “rising metro” as the City works to recruit residents, students, and businesses. A rising metro is defined as a growing city being intentionally designed as a hub of 21st century life. With a population of less than 100,000, rising metros have a stable tax base, at least one institution of higher learning and burgeoning entrepreneurial and art communities.
Mayor Judd states, “Moorhead has a rising art scene, a young community focused on education, and a strong culture of achievement. The culture of achievement is demonstrated in business, education, sports, and community service.”
“The film highlights only some of Moorhead’s gems,” says City Manager Chris Volkers. We are making great strides in economic and community development. Moorhead’s future is very bright.”
Moorhead’s brand statement: We believe this is where the strong belong. Moorhead is a rising metro. We are growing a vibrant business, academic, and art community. We have a culture of achievement, rooted in the spirit of curiosity. Here, we choose to be more.
