Post Date:05/06/2019 2:17 pm

On Sunday, May 5, 2019, at approximately 9:26 am, officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of 20 St S. The caller reported a female was currently being physically assaulted by a male. The male was also threatening to commit further violence by using a knife and a hammer.

As officer arrived, the victim was actively escaping the garden level apartment through a window. Officers were able to see the suspect inside the apartment. When officers approached the door, the male refused to come out. After a period of time, officers made entry into the apartment. As the door was opened, the suspect was standing inside the kitchen area holding what was believed to be a handgun. Officer stayed in the doorway as the male fled to the back of the apartment.

Due to the high risk, the apartment was evacuated and after a period of time the Red River SWAT Team was requested. During this time, a member of the Moorhead Police Department continued verbal dialogue with the suspect. Just prior to the arrival of the SWAT team, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. A facsimile handgun was located inside the apartment.

The suspect, Terrance Lee York, age 52, of Moorhead, was taken into custody and the following charges have been requested: Felony Domestic Assault, Felony Second Degree Assault, and Felony False Imprisonment. York also had an active Misdemeanor Warrant.
