Four Motor Vehicles Crash Involving Fatality

Post Date:01/06/2018 5:00 pm

On Saturday, January 6, 2018,  at 12:05 p.m., Officers were sent to the intersection of 34 Street and Highway 10 East in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving four vehicles.  It was determined that a rear end collision occurred in the left turn lane for 34 Street on eastbound Highway 10.  A full size Ford F-150 pickup struck the rear of a vehicle occupied by two adults and a two year old child.  Both vehicles continued eastbound striking two more cars as they went onto 34 Street.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the pickup was not injured.  The two year old boy in the victim vehicle suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Sanford Hospital by F-M Ambulance where he died.  Names are being withheld pending notification of family members.

The Minnesota State Patrol has been requested to conduct the accident reconstruction investigation.  The pickup driver has been cooperative with authorities and did not show signs of physical impairment through field sobriety testing.  He is currently not in custody with appropriate criminal charges expected to be requested through the Clay County Attorney's Office upon completion of the investigation.  The investigation is on-going.

We are attempting to identify all witnesses to this motor vehicle crash and ask that they call the Red River Regional Dispatch Center at 701.451.7660 to speak with the on-duty Moorhead Police Supervisor.
