Post Date:05/19/2017 7:11 am

On 05/19/2017 at approximately 1:45 a.m., Officers from the Moorhead Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the I-94 on-ramp near 8th Street South for failing to yield.  As an officer approached the car, the driver fled away from the traffic stop.  The suspect fled eastbound on I-94 and reached speeds between 90-100 mph.  Officers initiated a pursuit and the suspect quickly exited onto 20th Street South.  Officers lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the pursuit.  A citizen called police and informed us the suspect vehicle pulled into the Triumph Church parking lot, near 20th Street and I-94.  The suspect vehicle was located and discovered it was now unoccupied.  A significant amount of methamphetamine was recovered in the vehicle.  A K-9 search was attempted and initially did not locate the suspect.  During the investigation, the Moorhead Police Department discovered the vehicle was stolen from Milaca, MN.  A suspect was identified as Nils Anthony Njus (52 year old male).  The Moorhead Police Department received information that Njus was at a hotel in south Fargo.  At approximately 0430 hours, The Fargo Police assisted in locating Njus and he was arrested by the Fargo Police Department without incident.  Njus is held in the Cass County (ND) jail pending a long form complaint from the Clay County Attorney’s Office for charges of Felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, felony possession of stolen vehicle, felony controlled substance crime-possession of methamphetamine, fleeing on foot and several traffic related offenses.  Njus also has an outstanding felony warrant through the MN Department of Corrections for felony assault.  There were no injuries or property damage as a result of the pursuit and the quick information provided by a citizen following the pursuit assisted in recovering the vehicle and evidence.
