This morning at 10:42, the Moorhead Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 804 24th Avenue South in Moorhead. Crews arrived at the 12-unit apartment building at 10:46 to find smoke coming from a garden level apartment. Upon the primary search, an adult female was found and crews extricated her from the building. She was treated and transported by ambulance to Sanford Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
Heavy smoke damage was noted to the unit of fire origin. Minor to moderate smoke damage occurred throughout the building. Fargo Fire Department assisted in searching the building for additional victims. There were smoke detectors sounding and this Building was not equipped with a fire sprinkler system.
At this time, the Moorhead Police, Moorhead Fire, and MN State Fire Marshal Investigators are in the process of investigating the fire.
