Moorhead Police responded to the 1300 block of 16 Avenue South shortly before 10:00 a.m. for a reported intruder that was inside their unattached garage.  The homeowner reported hearing a door bell prior to observing a male enter their garage.  Police located the suspect about three blocks away from the residence and were able to take him into custody without incident.  As a result of their on-going investigation, the suspect has been connected to at least two other recent burglaries in the area.  A residence in the 1300 block of 2 Avenue South had a window broken to gain entry and a residence in the 1800 block of 7 Street South last week reported electronic items stolen from their residence.  It is unknown at this time if he is associated with additional previously reported burglaries.

MARLEE JOSUE CHACON (20 years old with no permanent address) is being held in the Clay County Jail on 3 counts of Felony Burglary, 2 counts of Criminal Damage, tampering with a motor vehicle, and an outstanding warrant out of Iowa for Burglary.

Over the last two years the number of reported burglaries in Moorhead has increased by 32%.  We want to remind everyone to lock your doors and secure your property to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of theft.  We also encourage neighborhood watch participation within your neighborhoods and to report anything that appears suspicious.  For those that plan to be away over the holidays, we encourage you to communicate with your neighbors and friends to reduce the number of residences that are not being monitored.
