Barricaded Subject and Reported Robbery Investigations

Post Date:11/28/2016 5:00 am

At approximately midnight, Moorhead Police were advised of a reported armed robbery in the 1100 block of 19 Street South.  At the same time, a reported physical domestic involving a gun was reportedly occurring a few blocks south of this location in the 1900 block of 20th Street South.  In both cases, initial information was that involved people had fled their initial location.  The investigations have determined that these incidents are unrelated.

Officers on scene of the reported domestic in the 1900 block of 20 Street South were able to get into the apartment building and establish an inner perimeter around the suspect's apartment.  A female victim had escaped from their apartment to a neighboring apartment to report to police that her male roommate made threats toward her with a firearm and that her young child was still inside.  Officers immediately began evacuating other tenants and activated the Red River Regional SWAT Team with negotiators.  Fargo Police Officers were requested to assist with traffic control limiting access to the immediate area around the building.  Police were unable to establish communications with the male subject inside the apartment prior to the SWAT team making entry.  The male subject was discovered deceased from a gunshot injury.  The child was located safe and removed from the scene.  The investigation is on-going.

The reported robbery incident was initially handled by the Clay County Sheriff's Office due to Moorhead officers involvement with the barricaded subject.  A male has reported that he provided transportation to Moorhead from Fargo for a female that he had met earlier in the night.  The victim reports that he was visiting with the female in the 1100 block of 19 Street South when a heavier black male reportedly demanded his money while threatening him with a handgun.  The suspect and female reportedly fled from the scene together running northbound with an undisclosed amount of cash.  The investigation will be conducted by the Moorhead Police Department.
