The Moorhead Police Department will be facilitating a mock child abduction scenario Tuesday morning October 11, 2016, as an important training opportunity for the regional Child Abduction Response Team (C.A.R.T). The fabricated scenario will provide law enforcement the opportunity to test their response procedures. This is also a chance to activate response personnel, such as the regional C.A.R.T, to establish the resources needed to address a significant event such as this.
Notifications of this mock event are being provided as a courtesy to anyone that may observe or hear about the increased resources that will be participating. The drill will require the testing of the Emergency Operation Center capabilities; as well as the assembly of potential assets that may be needed in such an event such as air support.
This drill is being conducted for the benefit of public safety with assurance to the community that appropriate safety considerations are in place to avoid exposing anyone to harm during this exercise. Although training such as this requires significant participation, our community is better served and should feel comforted knowing how seriously we would respond to incidents such as this.
The C.A.R.T. team was established in 2008 and is nationally certified through the Department of Justice and Amber Alert Training Program. It is made up of various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
