Moorhead Parks & Recreation presented with the Good Neighbor Award

Post Date:03/28/2016 11:34 am

Moorhead Parks and Recreation received the 2016 Good Neighbor Award during the annual meeting of River Keepers, Thursday, March 24. The Good Neighbor Award is given for outstanding efforts, including upkeep of river property that helps maintain integrity, activities which have enhanced the river or the enjoyment of the river, or any unique efforts to befriend the river.

In 2015, Moorhead Parks and Recreation, in partnership with River Keepers, offered canoe and kayak rentals, as well as several River Paddling Excursions throughout the summer. They will also partner on an On-the-Water Clean-up event.

In addition, they have collaborated with River Keepers in the last few years, organizing volunteer tree planting events along the Red River, which will create a buffer, maintain river bank stability, encourage growth of native plants, improve water quality (Fargo-Moorhead’s drinking water source), and provide habitat for wildlife.

This coming year, Moorhead Parks and Recreation have made it a priority to reinvigorate their beautification programs which includes Adopt the Red. There are nine sections in Moorhead along the Red River that are seeking adoption by businesses, organizations, or families who agree to pick up garbage once in the spring and once again in the fall.

For more information on the Adopt a Red or other City beautification projects, please contact Kim Wangler at 218.299.5296, visit our Volunteer section of the Parks website, or visit the River Keepers website.
