Canoe and Kayak Excursion: Birds of the Red River

If you like to canoe or kayak, and would like to learn more about the Red River, join us this summer as Moorhead Parks and Recreation and River Keepers host River Paddling Excursions from 5:30-8 pm, at the Hjemkomst Landing, in Moorhead. Take a relaxing downtown river tour as local guest speakers share their expertise on the following educational topics:

May 19: Birds of the Red River, hosted by Fargo-Moorhead Audubon.
Bring a keen eye and ear as the Fargo-Moorhead Audubon leads us on the Red in search of birds perched and in flight! Learn about the different species of birds that live along the Red River and those that utilize it while migrating.

June 16: History of the Red River, hosted by Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County.
Ever wonder what Moorhead was like "growing up?" Join HCSCC on a riveting history lesson of downtown Moorhead that includes historic sites including the steamboat landing and remnants from the riverfront saloons.

July 21: Animals of the Red River, hosted by the Red River Zoo.
All sorts of animals use the Red River for a source of food, water, and shelter. Join the Red River Zoo and learn about the many habitats of wildlife living along the river and see animals and signs of where they live and play along the route!

August 4: History of the Red River, hosted by Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County.
Ever wonder what Moorhead was like "growing up?" Join HCSCC on a riveting history lesson of downtown Moorhead that includes historic sites including the steamboat landing and remnants from the riverfront saloons.

August 18: Trees of the Red River, hosted by City of Moorhead Forestry.
Gaze into the terrific tree canopy as Moorhead's CIty Forester presents the types of tree species we see along the Red River and their benefits for the river, and animals with wings, paws, and fins.

All skill levels are invited. Each session will begin at 6 pm with the basics of canoeing and kayaking. Please arrive at 5:30 pm. Vessels are available on a first come first serve basis.

Fees: $10/person if you own your own vessel $15/person for canoe/kayak rental.

In the case of inclement weather, all programs will be rescheduled for the following Wednesday.
